Hello again. It has been a busy time in terms of research developments for me. I don’t know if I mentioned but I’m working on a manuscript with SciTrek right now, and had the responsibility of doing the method and parts of the intro, and that has been fun. It’s exciting, the prospect of being a second author on something published very soon

The majority of my time has been taken up (today, and weeks before) by my honors thesis. I’m nearly finished with the intro, and my advisor Dr. Woods is encouraging me to begin work on the methods section. It has genuinely been fun and wonderful working on this paper, but in the nicest way it has been learning opportunity after learning opportunity. I’m not exhausted with this paper yet but I’m a little tired of beating it into new shapes every time my theoretical argument or arrangement of variables using data available is askew, I need to go back several hours and keep treading. I want to show you, but I want my professor to tell me it looks good before that!

With the Center for Evaluation and Measurement, I’ve begun conducting interviews on other undergrads for this evaluation of a Summer internship (which is global i guess) at UCSB called ACTION.ai or something. It’s been interesting and a little tiring but I’m very grateful to get more experience doing independent data collection, especially in a mostly unfamiliar format. I just hope I don’t have to be the one doing the qualitative analysis on these, because man the subject of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence combined is about as boring as it could get for a guy like me.

Anyway, something exciting! My colleagues who worked with me on the Transfer Climate Survey and Transfer Climate Focus Groups are wanting to publish something in the coming months- the kicker? They want it to be my honors thesis! They want me to be the tip of the spear in this paper, and write my thing first with as much of their help is allowed, and then pass it to them once my honors thesis project has completed and then turn it into a big fancy paper. Isn’t that cool? I think it’s pretty cool. (And maybe I’ll get first author)

Thanks for checking in,

Tate
