Hi again. God, it feels like Friday to me. I haven’t been able to concentrate on my work as well as usual today. It’s alright, I think I’ll just listen to my body and take today easy and get back to it tomorrow.

Research and career developments abound!

  1. After reaching out (repeatedly, admittedly) to the county of Santa Barbara, I spoke to the current homeless assistance programs manager who was extremely interested in taking on a researcher to design and plan out a new methodology to collect more accurate data on those living out of their car in SB county. The work really means a lot to me, but it’s also an excellent opportunity not just to put something on my CV, but for experience! I want to be a good researcher, and I want the experience now that gets me there asap. So let’s see how that unfolds as time progresses onwards! It’s paid too!!!!
  2. After finally finishing the fleshing out of the main frameworks that my honors thesis will speak through, I started working on those exact variables and measures. I’m finding that even though we sure got a hell of a lot of data with our focus groups and 500+ response survey, there are many variables that are kind of nebulous or difficult to quantify, and that I may need to go back into the transcript and do a whole heck of a lot of coding. Hopefully that massive effort of getting on top of the literature makes headwinds good for me: I expect to have an easier time just writing the lit reviews on the factors themselves. I’ve honestly mostly been busying myself with creating theoretical models on excel, that could or maybe won’t in actuality be tested. You can see one or two of these mock ups below! Pls don’t steal my design without collaborating with me…?
  3. The data sheet for Dr. Jones at CEA in the Ed building is finally done. It was a huge labor of love and took way more time than expected; good news, though, I am extremely well acquainted with the survey at this point, lol. I think it works good and looks okay, but honestly I don’t think I would be satisfied if the excel sheet transformed like a transformer into a multimedia video presentation of the data. Some things you just gotta leave at the end of the day. It was fun but tiring. Now we get to keep moving through this data, and continuing onwards with those qualitative analyses.
  4. SciTrek continues to finish up… except! We just began a manuscript process under my mentor grad student Caitlin Ng, about the same thing my poster was about (have you seen my poster? I’ll post it below.) and I expect to get my first authorship from this! Isn’t that cool? I’m starting by working on the Methods section since I’m very familiar. Updates soon to come.
Who knows how accurate this is but doesn’t it look cool?
A CECE model that possibly can be tested using SEM?
